Cheap overseas calls from Virgin Media

Does anyone know the cheapest way to phone abroad with Virgin?
We do use Skype but sometimes the people the other end are not there so we would like to find a cheaper dialing company.

18185, 1899 and 18866 all have freephone access number which can be used from VM lines so it's worth checking which offers the best cable price to the country you're interested in calling.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

When you visit the sites Heinz has recommended your see something like
"NTL, Telewest, other non-BT or mobile users? Click here!"
Strangely they have not recognised existence of VM yet.:D

What destinations do you call,do you have inclusive 01/02/03 minutes with VM if so for what period.

Mainly Colombia/ Spain (well my wife calls not me). Now Call18866 is 3 p per minute to Colombia - only 1p a minute saving from what we pay now but with the amount she can talk a big saving anyway.

Ideally I would like to find the same as BT - 2 p per minute

Hi, if you are making a lot of calls there are some countries where I think Virgin Media Talk Anywhere is actually the cheapest option. This seems a bit counter-intuitive because it's a standard provider and a (fairly) standard tariff, ie you'd probably expect there to be other, cheaper, options available.
Not sure about Colombia but for example, to ring Honduras mobiles costs about 13p a minute with the cheapest override provider.
To take an extreme example, 800 minutes of such calls per month with Virgin Media Talk Anywhere 800 would cost £29 per month (if they were the only calls you made), whereas 800 minutes with the cheapest override provider would be £104. I'd be interested to know if there is a cheaper option. I presume the same goes for other 'unfashionable' countries too.
I didn't study anything at school. They studied me.

You didnt say if you had 01/02 inclusive minutes and when but you can call Colombia from 1.4p and Spain for 0.9 p via an 01/02 access number using www.localphone.com and their is no connection charge.

Any suggestions for Honduras mobiles please? That override number would still be 10.8p per minute, ie over £80 a month in my earlier example. Thanks

If you make approx 800 minutes of calls to Honduras mobiles month in and month out the Virgin Media Talk Anywhere bundle and you dont call anywhere else it is probaly the cheapest way of calling them.

Cheapest way i know of from VM without a bundle is 9.79p a minute via a 0871 access number.

Thanks for that, maybe there are other countries where this option is worth looking at too, for heavy users.

If you call other destinations as well eg UK Landline,s Mobiles etc then its probaly not so good, bearing in mind you have no control over how the 800 minutes are allocated.
