Picture Home Loans - can anyone hlep me???

I have a secured loan with Picture Finance and it is only recently that I have discovered that Picture have the power to control my life! I applied for a remortgage to have some home improvments done and pay off my credit cards but my solicitor has now advised that Picture will not agree to a deed of postponement. This basically means that I cannot remortgage for the sum I require as they will not agree to the bank being the first lender on the property ( even though the bank are already the first lender) They have told me the reason for this is that I want to increase my mortgage and in the current economic climate they don't want me to do this.
Can anyone offer any advice about this - spefically how i can get them to change their minds - i am at breaking point with this!!

It's not a good idea to turn unsecured debt into secured debt. Firstly, you could lose your home if you default. Mainly though, if something happens and you have to claim benefits and mortgage interest help, they'll only pay for the principal mortgage and anything for repairs to the house, not any additional for debts.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
