Twelve months sick completed.

July 2nd 08 I had a bad accident at work resulting in my being absent for the past 12 months. During that time my company offered me 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay, I received what appears to be my final monthly pay slip which totaled up to just £135 to last for the next month. I also receive £64 per week Employment support allowance. I am a plasterer who because of negligence now has a disability I could do without. I am still technicaly employed as my company are looking to re deploy me in some other capacity, but as yet nothing has been offered.
I have been asked to go for a medical on August 3rd, this is for incapacity benefit. I will after the medical have to wait until they have assessed me before any money will reach us. What must my wife and I do in the meantime. I did phone the DWP but they told me they could not do anything until after the medical. As Im 54 and never had a day off sick in my life, I bet those entering the country will be housed, fed and given a wad of money and be better off than we currently are.

One wonders if you have contacted a personal injury lawyer on a no win no fee basis to get some compensation from your employer?
  • Yes, I have appointed a solicitor. There are two guilty parties involved, one is my company, the other is a sub contracting company who`s two employees were the negligent party. Both are now blaming the other for the incident. I have been waiting for one of them to admit liability but as yet nothing has been admited as one is blaming the other.. The solicitor appointed has now taken steps to take the matter to court, he does not believe it will go that far but again It`s me that has to wait and suffer the consequences.

I cannot add anything that will help you, but understand your frustration. I too think the goverment bends over backwards to help those who have not contributed to the scheme.I just wanted to say good luck and my thoughts are with you.
  • there is a section on benefits. you should post it there maybe.

A solicitor may be able to get you an part payment if the company are accepting some liability.
