can anyone suggest a very cheap laptop about £200.00?
it's to be used just for browsing / emails, etc, no music / games.
it's going to be a present for my neice, but we're on a tight budget so the cheaper the better.
ta for any help / suggestions

Have a look at bigpockets.
They do have new laptops but I have no experience of those.
I bought a IBM Thinkpad T42 from them, described as refurbished, for about £180 a few months ago. Worked perfectly, and is still working perfectly. Absolutely no problems.
Ok, it was a bit grubby, but a few mins with a damp cloth and a tiny brush and it looked like new again.
IBM Thinkpads are tough machines, especially the pre-Lenovo ones.

I have 3 Thinkpads, a 770X (my first laptop) and 2 x T41's.
I've also refurbed/sold a good number of them too.
They are simply bomb proof, anyone who's ever worked on one will tell you how well built they are! Cannot fault them, especially as you can get a refurbished T42 for between £150 and £200, a machine that would have cost £1500+ just 3-4 years ago.... Built to last, unlike your cheapo high street jobs.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Yea, processor speed would be an obvious mistake. Don't however assume this for other specs. Sometimes laptops go up on ebay with parts swapped out (due to failure) or with downgraded memory for example where the seller has removed some memory to make a bit of extra cash or upgrade another machine.
For the ebay novice, It's good practice to ask the seller if they have listed the specs correctly.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

For that kind of money you can get either a shiny new netbook or a grubby refurbished laptop. Machines with 9-10" and 15" displays command the lowest premiums, so that's where you should be focusing your efforts; prices for systems inbetween those sizes tend to be disproportionately higher.FirstTimer4Me wrote: »we can spend up to a max of £250
And yes, Windows XP costs less than Windows Vista - unless it's sold as a 'downgrade' option. Linux on the other hand costs virtually nothing, but has a slight learning curve owing to Microsoft's significant market penetration.0 -

I resent that! :rotfl::rotfl:
My laptop's are like new!
For me, laptop's are like cars..... I'd rather get last years higher spec model for ££££ less! I'd never buy a new one, the neighbours don't really care anyway and you'll look less of an idiot when it breaks down
