my mum bought the YAYW magazine this month (because it had a free vows and readings book lol) and there was a big article on wedding cakes in there. Some of them are amazing! Surprisingly the cheese cake was the cheapest at about £150 for 3 tiers. There were some fantastic jelly ones as well and instead of a cake it was about 6 tiers of little bags with a small plant in it.

Yes, it is a Yorkshire thing. Cheese with fruit cake, much like Yorkshire pudding with treacle!!!!
My son wanted a cheescake for his 18th birthday. Not cheese as in the block stuff but cheese as in the pudding. I made it in 3 tiers and then drizzled chocolate over the top. Scrummy. Had to put little dowels in each layer to stop the tiers sinking into each other!!

Cheese with fruit cake is difinitely a Yorkshire thing! I love it, H2B watches me scoff it down like I've just landed :rotfl:

My sister had a wedding cake made out of cheese and it was really nice but hideously expensive. It disappeared quickly enough though

  • I like the cheese round cakes,I wouldn,t have it in place of a proper sweet wedding cake though.I am having a small cheese wedding cake served with fruit and crackers as the 5th course of my wedding meal though.

A wedding cake of cake is MY idea of Hell! Were having a cheese wedding cake and I can't wait, we both love cheese. To shut up the moaners who say why cant we have cake were also having a parkin wedding cake (5th Nov wedding) on the side but the main cake that we cut will be the cheese one. joolesw1973 - Do you have details of the shop in Howarth? Do you know if they will set up for you? (were Yorkshire too) Were currently planning on using the cheese board in Harrogate but the more quotes the merrier

It's called the cheese place & it's on Haworth main street, they also have a website, we went in to get a 'feel' for it & we're really impressed, she showed us details of a couple of cakes she was doing with prices, she had one ordered for about 70/75 people & it was £150 obviously this will depend on which cheese you want, but she said they could talk through your budget, what we really liked was her approach, she didn't try to sell something more expensive & we got some tasters! She said they need about 4 weeks notice so we plan to go back in Feb to order for the begining of April. Not sure if they do the setting up, we're in York (my parents live nr Haworth) so planning on setting up & decorating it ourselves (or roping my sister/a friend in to do it!)

Hi Linda, we're in York now but I grew up in Oakworth & my family are still there. I'm really funny about dried fruit! So won't be having the fruit cake with my cheese, but my Dad's delighted! I'm only a recent convert to sweet cheesecake, but your son's sounds lovely.
