Not entitled to JSA but can claim NI credits?

Hi there,
I opened a claim for Contribution based JSA but it transpires I am not entitled to it as I have not built up enough credits needed (I have been a mature student on ALG for the last two years). I am not eligible for Income based JSA either.
The advisor on the phone line said I can close my claim or continue to sign fortnightly for credits (but not get any money.)
I just wondered if anyone has done this? Do I still have to keep a record of what work I have applied for? Can the JC staff hassle me! I always do more than they ask for, and I always keep a record but you know what they can be like!
Cheers,
K :rotfl:

'but you know what they can be like!'
'They' are the people on here whom you are asking advice!!!
Try not to be so judgemental & 'they' may answer your question...
I was gonna answer but.... well.. you know what 'I am like'!!Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

Yes you will have to do all the things that would be required if you were actually receiving payment.0

Yes, you must sign on each time to get your NI credits.
In 2 or 3 years time if you want ssp or Jsa you will be in the same position you are now. not enough credits. To claim JSA or SSP you must have a full 2 years NI credits, miss just one and youre down the swanea again.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

By the way guys, is there something I should have done whilst I was studying and receiving ALG that would have prevented this predicament? I wasn't aware of it if there was

You would need to have worked and paid sufficient NI in the tax years 2006/7 and 2007/8 in order to receive contribution based JSA.0 -
Surely you will qualify for income support???
thats what ususally happens if you dont qualify for anything else.0 -
Has to be a qualifying condition such as being a lone-parent, being a carer and in fewer and fewer cases being sick.sandraroffey wrote: »Surely you will qualify for income support???

There are some other conditions where you can qualify but they are fairly obscure.0 -

This parliment has changed the rules for IS and the grounds under which you can claim and unless you fall under the right catagory you have no chance.0
