Credit Card Refund Question

Options
Hi - forum newbie here.

My partner recently bought a reconditioned gearbox for her car from a dealer on the web for about £300 - the Peugeot garage wanted £1400+ before labour costs for a brand new one!

The gearbox arrived but it was for a petrol engine rather than diesel - a mistake on our part (partner's father said it was petrol when ordering).

Gearbox was sent back on 7th July via UPS so there is a record of the company receiving the part, but they have not issued a refund yet and when asked they said it could take up to 30 days. Can this be right, or are they at it?

Is there a maximum time within which they are allowed to wait before issuing a refund, or are they legally obliged to issue the refund as soon as they have received the goods?

Any help would be appreciated.
