The ftse100 has been rubbish over 10 years, the last time it was a good prospect for growth was the nineties.

Anyone investing 100% in the FTSE100 is daft. Thats not investing. Thats taking a punt and hoping for the best.

A balanced portfolio would have done rather well. It would have been made up of different asset classes, spread across the regions and rebalanced. Rebalancing allows you to take advantage of the ups and downs in a similar way to monthly investing.

Agreed, which is why I don't have a single FTSE tracker in my portfolio. I was using it as an example of why shares aren't "worse than they've been since 12 years ago".

project500, ups and downs can be nicely profitable. Rebalancing is one way to make money even if the market ends up exactly where it started after ten years.

    Tryingnottobeafool,
A lot of people here seem to be ignoring your question and just talking amongst themselves.
It could be helpful for you to find out from the IFA's who are advising you here, exactly what it would cost you if a fixed fee was negotiated to handle your inheritance.
Just might help you decide if you want to go down that road.

    Hope this helps.
