Hi, another quick question.
I understand that if I buy an oyster card and travel between zones 1 and 2 after 9.30 am, it caps at £5.10. It says on the oyster website that you have to scan your oyster card before and after leaving the tubes/trains. I just wanted to know about what happens on the busses - you obviously scan when you go on, but do you have to scan when you come off. Also, does it mean that I can travel on the tubes and busses all day, and the most I will pay will be the capped amount (not £5.10 for tubes, and £5.10 for busses). thanks for your help, once again.0 -
Dead right caps at £5.10 in total. No need to scan when you leave the bus either.Hi, another quick question.

The bus is a flat fare of £1 per journey - so if you travel on six buses a day it will cap at £5.10 (rather than £6) but if you travel on 5 it will be £5...
If you do a £2.20 tube journey and then 5 buses for example it will cap on the 3rd journey to £5.10...
Dont forget if you go that far over you can used oyster on the DLR as well to get to Greenwich for example but not currently on the boats (although that will be happening from October I think...)0 -

What is the DLR, and we are going in October, so can you tell me about the boats - sounds good! thanks0 -
The DLR is the Docklands Light Railway - it runs from Bank or Tower bridge to places like canary wharf and Greenwich - you can find more info here:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/modalpages/2632.aspx?WT.mc_ID=dlr_general&WT.srch=1
Its an electrified train without a driver (usually sometimes there is someone but it can run without) - its overland so can be interesting to travel on it for a unique view of London
There's a guide to river boat services (not tours they are different) here:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/9442.aspx
Looks like the launch date for acceptance of payg oyster hasnt been announced yet but the initial press release is here:
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/11486.aspx
May get more news in the next month on that one...or you can do a river tour for about £6-10 (depending on what you do) and then you get full commentary etc0 -
Thanks very much - very useful information - will look out to see if the river boat is included for October - hopefully catch the info on this site - it's great!0

No problem - I dont use the river a lot but I expect it will be announced in the local news so I'll keep an ear out for it...will be pretty handy tbh - now they just need to work on including the southern trains that run in London on oyster and everything would be perfect

It will be great if the riverboats are included. Please let us know if you hear anything as london news tends not to make the provincial papers. thanks in advance."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Was just having a scout around the tfl site and it looks like the agreement has been made for this to go ahead but sadly only from November:
Oyster on River: Agreement has been reached with Thames Clippers on the acceptance of Oyster for river services, from November 2009. Customers with Oyster PAYG will receive a 33 per cent discount on river fares, and the current 33 per cent discount for Travelcard holders will continue.
