Some Questions About Valencia.

After spending our March/April holiday in the Algarve for four straight years we think it's time to look for pastures new. We are seriously thinking about Valencia for this. The plan is to rent an apartment in the city-centre and not bother with a hire-car. Is a week too long to spend there? When we have been on city breaks before in Madrid, Lisbon and Krakow we have usually had just four nights in those cities and that seemed long enough. As I mentioned, we will not have a car, so what are the trains and buses like to take day trips to other towns and resorts? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Valencia is a fab city. Probably not enough to do for a week in the city itself, but there's a really good beach within spitting distance (well a bus ride anyway) of town. There's also the science museum and oceanography centre which are both well worth a visit.

One thing I have found out is that the Americas Cup is taking place in Valencia next year. Luckily it's in June so will not affect my plans, but I have heard it has encouraged the city to provide a few more facilities and improve the metro.

We have been to Valencia a couple of times, and love it. The public transport is fine. There is a good Metro system, fully integrated and clean and efficient. One line is a tram which goes to the beach. The buses are ok too.

Eating out is excellent, with lots of choice and some very good value places. You can get out of town by local train too if you wish. You'll love it!

I think Valencia city is a long weekend destination. For a week I would find somewhere on the coast to stay not too far from the city, so you can visit the city but enjoy the coast on the sunny days.

I know its not Valencia but Barcelona is a wonderful Spanish city with so much to see and do.

Las Ramblas is the very famous shopping street that comes alive with street entertainers from early evening.

You can take a tour around the local cava vineyard which is great and There is a cable car up to the cliff top.

    Excellent
