Great thread, i'd like to keep this one up to date. It can be really difficult trying to have a NSD but with sharing ideas for lunch it can mean they don't have to be "boring food" NSD's!

I'm off this week so no need, however I am back to work (12.5 hour shifts!) with minimal cooking facilities the following week, so I could do with some inspiration :)

Ice tea is a very cheap drink and a nice treat. Its dead easy to make, make some tea in half a jug of water, add another half of cold water, add a spoon of sugar to taste and then put it in the fridge. V Nice!

I can't see this filling The Gazelle up much at lunchtime, as nice as it sounds, they call me Twiggy Lawson now. :rotfl:

Well 3 x 12.5 shift days ahead of me. Going to try to make a batch of pasta to take with me each day. I don't like tomatoes and I think every pasta recipe I have seen has tomatoes in it:( Help!

  • Gargrave, could you try a creme fraiche based sauce? I do one with pancetta, mushrooms, creme fraiche and cheese which is lovely....

If you have microwave at work could you take potatoes in for jackets with beans or something?

Am just about to make some leek and potato soup for the week.....

Hey blue, get you - who knew there were such talented chefs around here?!

I'll give it a try - have never tried creme fraiche before so don't think I'll make a massive amount just in case!

  • Wouldn't call myself a chef, more a lazy person who likes quick dinners ;)

Creme fraiche just makes it a creamy sauce, a lower caloried carbonara sauce really :rotfl:

What about those flavoured rice packets, they're quite cheap in Lidl, or you could make your own, you could cook it and have it as a rice salad type thing, or cook it in work and have it hot?

Thanks blue I went with your suggestion and made some rice with pan fried red onion peppers and sweetcorn and diced some leftover spicy chicken through it. It was lovely!

I buy 5 potatoes (for £1 total), and have one a day for lunch with either 1/2 can baked beans, v small can tuna or some cheese, depending upon what I want to eat that day. I eat for about 50p a lunch!!

I p-rick (word filter edited this out first time, hence the hyphen!!) the potato the night before and put it in a tupperware box, and put the filling in a separate box. I have a plate and cutlery at work and just stick it in the microwave. Very filling, and much cheaper than the £4 potatoes with fillings at the cafe, or the expensive baguettes at the Pret over the road.

I also bring in fruit for snacks, and a packet of water biscuits will last me two weeks. :)
