hi,
2 years ago i wanted to get in to the i.t industry. i had no experience and did some googleing to see what i could find in the way of training packages etc. i eventually found a fairly well known company and called them up and they arranged for an adviser (salesman!) to come round and basically talk me into it.
the salesman managed to talk me in to a package worth 5 grand, and to this day i wish i never had set eyes on the company.
the package consists of many microsoft and cisco books/training/exams paid upfront. i feel i have been missold this package, its a massive amount for someone without (or with) a job in i.t to take on.
my question is, as i have bought this, and made use of some of it (have done 2 of the many exams) have i a case to reclaim some of my money, possibly through small claims court? i feel really miffed about the whole situation.
thanks.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say no.!
Unless there has been a breach of contract on their side or they are not providing the service then i dont think you have a leg to stand on.
These things wont cater for a change of heart/mind. I have seen a few people with thse trying to reclaim on their Credit card and really unless u aint getting the service sorry to say it doesnt look good. Would check your contract.
sorry i know its a lot of cash to have paid but maybe you could expand on how you feel you have been missold maybe then someone will come along it may change things slightly though not sure..
All the best,.0 -
on reflection i think this company has taken advantage of someone (me). they knew that i did not have a job within i.t at the time and the sheer amount of work involved in completing these exams would challenge even the most experienced of i.t people.
i think that judging on the information given to them at the time about myself eg that i was not working in i.t at the time and had no experience, they should not have sold such a big package, but perhaps a smaller cheaper one.
i know you could make a case against mis selling payment protection cover, so why not this?
thanks for the opinions by the way.0 -
You can make a claim against being mis-sold PPI ("you have to have it" or just not being told you've got it full stop), but were you mis-sold this? No
Your an adult - you should be able to assess whether or not you could do the course. They sold an IT training package - but you couldn't hack it. Should people who are too stupid to get a Uni degree claim they have been mis-sold the package? Obviously no!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
I'd be more disappointed if a £5,000 training course was not challenging and not a lot of hard work. The salesman wasn't to know you couldn't cope. Some people with non-IT jobs could no doubt complete the course successfully. At some point, YOU must have thought you could cope with the course and be successful, otherwise you would not have enrolled. How is the salesman supposed to know yourself better than you do?0

I have to say, it never fails to amaze me the amount of people who sign up for these things. College courses are face to face tuition, usually cheaper and do run in an evening.0

i have to agree with the other posts, i think it is unlikely you will get a refund of any kind, you are meant to be something that is going to be challening, if you already had a full understanding of the course work you wouldn't be taking the course.
Also there is nothing saying that you havent actually done all the training to get an understanding but just not completed the exams, then you get a refund and just pay to do the exams!!
I would say your only way of recouping the money is to sell the course on, a lot of these training companies will let you sell it if you ask, im studing AAT and i have seen several courses sold by permission of the training provider at a reduced rate obviouslyEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

thats fine if you work a 9 - 5 job and you have no family, i chose a distance course as i was working shifts and wanted a different career, i couldn't get to the college every other week due to work, so i would miss half of the course. IF you are able to fit in college around you work/life commitments then yes it is the best way as you will get the face to face tuiton and it is easier to get the help straight away when you are struggling rather than having to wait for a call back/email.
Distance learning is good but you have to be highly motivated (Something i am seriously struggling with at the moment). When you hit a stumbling block you have to keep pushing to get past it and sometimes (for me anyway) if i dont understand something i will check the answer and work it backwards, it helps and i got over quite a few problems that way.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
