Free milk!!

I realise this is not much of a saving, but at Tescos today I bought their 'PURE' milk 2 ltrs for £1.59 and this came with 40 bonus points worth £1.60 when quadroupled making the milk free!! Just thought I would mention it as most of us have to buy milk. This was for all 3 sorts (full fat, semi and skimmed)

if the quadruple offers dont apply to you, which is quite often the case you only get 40p back so its not free for everyone

Sorry, but the quadrupling of points is a marketing exercise, which uses highly inflated prices as a starting point. Realistically you only achieve double the value (remember: RRP is not value!). So the milk cost you 80p (or 120p?), while Sainsbury's are selling 2l for 75p...

Tesco is good at creating the illusion of being cheap, without actually being cheap. Yes, you can score a few bargains there, but a full shopping can be quite expensive compared to other supermarkets.

Clubcard points are worth 1p each if you spend them in store, or 4p each if you spend them on Clubcard Deals, i.e. 40 points are worth £1.60 of deals. So they definitely give quadruple the value. For example, last year we bought ourselves Merlin Annual Passes and it cost us less than a quarter of what they would have cost if we had bought them at Alton Towers, or online directly from Merlin. So I'm not sure how you reached the conclusion that "realistically you only achieve double the value" or that they use "highly inflated prices as a starting point".

for things like holidays, the base price is quite a lot above what you would pay if using cash. So I agree, for certain things a more realistic level would be double the value.
For theme parks you often get "child free with paying adult" type offers which I don't think you can use alongside tesco vouchers, so surely these also work out approximately double not quadruple value.

I imagine there are certain things which are truly quadruple value though.

I purchased three 2 lts of milk yesterday, I carefully checked the label along side the product and it said 'TESCO PURE 2 LTRS £1.59 PLUS 40 EXTRA PTS). I only got 40 pts at checkout though, I went back to customer service , showed my receipt and got another 80 points. Having looked at Tesco online this morning the offer is for 2x2 ltrs so my mistake I am sorry (although customer services as well!!)
As for the price in Sainsbury, there is not one near me so I use Tesco, and I agree with all of the points, the holidays are expensive but days out are cheap. My family and I did Longleat last week for a quarter of the cost , later this month we will do Colchester Zoo, plus adventure Island in Southend.
I always find these forums useful for things I did not know and can use and hopefully will continue to.
