    Hi

You need to start by asking the Student Services people what Study Support is available, preferably before you start. There will be people who can help you understand referencing, how to read an assignment, to take notes, what the regulations mean, how to take notes. They are often more help than your course tutor. You will also have a personal tutor.

Most universities have a job shop as well. And sign up for the careers service on your first day.

I think thats what this summer school thing is for that i need to go to

Hopefully. Do ask about continuing support though - through the year.

Thanks, i am soo scared about starting uni...i just know i'm going to fail! I'm not very bright, or organised, or any of those kind of qualities you need to be a student.

I mean it's took me 5 years after leaving school at 18 to even get to uni

What course are you studying, and what job are you after doing it? Is there a way to get their via working towards it rathern than expensive student studying?

Not being awful, but 18+5 = 23 +3 = 26 and often then kids are calling.

i'm only going to be in uni for one year, as i am going straight into 3rd year. And i only have one more year left of student loan so can't stay and do 4th year.

I'm doing tourism and languages. No idea what i want to do job wise afterwords.

I don't know what Excel is, sorry?

If you are doing business management, you probably need to know how to use a spreadsheet, so use the time before uni to learn.

If you don't have Microsoft Office/Works installed, download openoffice (free). Some of your financial problems are down to lack of planning, and it will help you to know where you are, and plan your financial future, instead of waiting for things to happen (seemingly) out of the blue. There are free sample budgeting spreadsheets and guides all over the web.

You need to take control instead of plodding along. eg you've just opened a new account and been hit with a £35 fee already for going over the overdraft limit, that should have been predictable and avoidable. Where did the £120 go?

Plan what you are going to do with your bumper pay packet now. Plan paying off debt, not buying Mac/toiletries/clothes. Don't pay off a bit here, and there, willy nilly, work out the best way to use the money, keep creditors off your back, and last you until next pay day.

Set yourself a target, one year from today, you want this

    Total unsecured debts..........3360......85
    to be
    Total unsecured debts..........0......0

It can be done, if you work at it.

Do those coin machines in Morrison's take a cut, if so, you are throwing money away by using them, the money would be better off left in your bank account to reduce charges, collecting money in a tin is costing you interest.

Instead of buying bottled water, use the tap.

You don't need to buy anything for uni, you have pen, paper, laptop, you might need text books, but you will find out when you get there.
As for lectures...what exactly are they, and what happens?
    You have to read???? honestly?
    Lessons.

    Hello littlepink44,

Well done for polishing your SOA. In future just keep the same thread going.

As daily says you MUST know about spread sheets and word processing if you are to get a job in your chosen career.
here is a link to a free package http://www.openoffice.org/
If you were to buy a similar package from Microsoft (including excel) it could cost £500.
Open office is free and with the "help file" you can almost teach yourself. It is a very powerful package used by millions of people around the world. When you are working they may well have Microsoft but it is so similar it takes only days to get up to speed.

    Good Luck
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.
  • thanks for the help guys. I'm pretty sure my laptop has works on it, but i've only use it to write essays on before. I've never done any computing subjects in school (as i choose to do 3 languages instead) or in college.
I will give it a go when i get back from work tonight.

Daily - I honestly don't know how i ended up with a bank charge. I went to the cash machine and it said i could withdraw £50...so i did. Then the next day it said i was £20 over my overdraft limit.
