Just found it on abby's mother company website. They give away 10 shares each for every abbey's customer in some uni.

their share worth 8pounds each at the moment.

Abbey would have to give me more than 10 shares to be a customer with them. They were rated worst company for customer service and worst bank in the UK.

Bit of a silly offer I feel.

What are you going to do with them? Sell them and get ~80% of the money out of it after dealing costs, making a loss, or hold them and collect €6 - €7 in dividends a year and hope they go up high enough for you to sell at a profit?

And I go to one of these unis and there definitely isn't an Abbey on campus (Nor A&L/B&B)

Anyone from Warwick want to tell me something I don't know?

Good grief - 10 free Santander shares - go for it! Keep them till you do know what to do with them.

    Why wouldn't you?

    I'd rather have cash!

Can't help but feel this is a bit irresponsible, getting people to open sharedealing accounts when they probably have no idea what they're doing with them.

Its aounrd 10E a share. Thats around 100 euros for just getting a current account and then sellin the shares.

I'd do it if it was at my uni!

Although I am living in Soton atm, do you think I could get away with it and pretend I went to the uni? :D
