Looking for freeware undelete utilty.

I've got a bit of a personal disaster.
I copied a load of video onto my hard drive from my holiday a few weeks ago.
I decided to take a look at it today.
I discovered that the "avi" folder I'd made is totally empty. I must have deleted all of the video.

I need a freeware undelete utility and google searching throws up too many commercial answers. What's recommended? Thanks.

    First thing:-

    "STOP USING THE MACHINE"

If you deleted something and are still using the same machine, it's likely that bits of the videos you are trying to recover are being overwritten by other data (making the videos useless!)

I've not tried any of the free Recovery programs. I'd rather pay £60+ on a Windows based recovery program (called GetDataBack)

    *note*

You're talking to a guy running Linux who loves his free software! But I pay for things that I know that work!

Irony might be that the recovery program you download and install copies over some of the Video data!

But Good Luck what ever you do! ^_^

I use WinUndelete (click this linky) - can't remember if it's completely free though, I might have bought a copy.

I use REST2514 (Google to find a copy). Runs from a floppy, although it should do OK on a USB drive / CD.

I've given up trying to recover from the hard drive - it was all too long ago and I had to reinstall most of the software recently.

I want to see what might still be on the XD memory cards. However, the computer doesn't seem to regard the camera as a drive. My old camera appeared in the explorer as an additional drive.

Should I be able to sort out the camera so it appears as a drive?

It's unlikely you'll be able to recover it now, especially if it was a few weeks ago and you've used the workstation a few times since. I'm guessing the video will be lengthy and will be a large file, I'd be very surprised if it's not been overwritten in part... the freebie tools out there will have trouble recovering partial data especially video.

Yes, but the camera memory cards haven't been used since I deleted the stuff. So I want to try and get Recuva to recognise the camera card. Explorer is showing "finepix camera" as a location, but Recuva doesn't seem interested in scanning it.
