I have got a bank account with Barclays and am thinking about opening an account with Smile, I was just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on Smile? Thanks

The only thing I know about them is that since they don't have any branches you need to use Co-Operative Bank branches. I don't know if this presents a problem or not, but it's worth being aware of. :)

I have an acount with smile and have always found them very good. You can also pay in or withdraw money from Post Offices. Since everything else is done online the lack of handy branches has not bothered me

I've had an account with them for a couple of years and find them pretty good.

Glad to know that, i am thinking of opening one, just really because of the loyalty card. I use my halifax debit card lots so am thinking about transferring funds once a month to cover debit card spending and getting loyalty points.
Can you join on a website?

Yes you can apply online, in fact I think that's probably the only way you can. :)

I went to the online application and it wanted my present bank details.
I dont want to transfer everything to a new account
    I just want another account.

Why would it want my present account details.

To credit score you. My elderly mother has had an account with Smile for nearly 6 years. She uses the account to draw her pension at the PO. She has had no problems whatever. Highly recommended.

just as an aside, does your mum have a co-op loyalty card.
You get point for every £5 that you have in your account, it really adds up over the year and is paid out in co-op vouchers twice a year. really worth having.

You can't pay in cash, only cheques and PO are allowed in the payment envelopes.

You can pay in cash, you hand it over to the PO counter assitant, put your card in the chip and PIN machine, the money is immediately credited to the account and you dont need to enter your PIN. You dont use the envelopes for cash only cheques.
