How long will Jacket Potatos last

I was thinking about taking jacket potato's to work with me (we have a mircrowave) and the filling seperately.

How long would a jacket potato last if I batch cooked them? Or would I have to cook one the night before, which is not very MSE.

Are they hardy enough to cook 5 on a Sunday night and keep them in the fridge until they were re heated?

Thanks in advance if anyone knows :p

sorry but why would you want to cook them beforehand. They take about 6 minutes to cook in the microwave. Why not just take a raw one to work and cook it there - then its at least fresh.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Oh and if anyone has any filling ideas that would be great.
Apart from the obvious, tuna mayo, cheese, beans etc

Hi McKeff, thanks for replying. Purely for the taste, I prefer oven cooked jackets, I love eating the skin but its just not the same when there all microwaved.

Best bet is to just microwave them at work from raw. Or, if you do prefer the oven baked type - they are nicer - then I reckon it will be ok for maybe two or three days.

Also nice are jacket sweet potatoes.

Fillings - sour cream and chives, chilli, prawn mayo, cheese and onion, cheese and pickle, beans and chilli sauce (these are just jazzed up versions of the standard jacket fillings).

Oo thank you ryandj, cheese and onion sounds nice, I've never thought about putting them into a jacket, sandwhichs and pasties obv but never jackets! Gonna give that one a try. 2 -3 days you reckon then? I'll have to see if I can bung the remaining two in with the evening meal if its something oven cooked.

For the sour cream and chives, would that just be a store bought one, or is there a HM recipe or is it as simple as it sounds, sour cream and add some chives?

I Batch cook the potatoes for my mum then freeze them. take out in the morning for work they will help to keep your filling cool if in the same bag. then at work just slice through and micro.

Fillings i'm boring with really prefer the normal stuff most adventurous i get is left over bolanaise and chilli. But i do add spices to beans to give a kick.

Cheese chive and a little mayo is lovely. also finly sliced onion can be used. when i do tuna/mayo i add sweetcorn onion peppers parsley. Also add left over ham to cheese mayo gives a bit of a bite.

Does that work with freezing? They dont go soggy or anything? How long would you recommend re heating them for? Do they keep long in the freezer?

not sure how long they would last mum eats one everyday and sister every other day so they don't spend long in the freezer, but she's had them for a month sometimes and said they were fine. as for heating time it's trial and error size of pot and mico as well as how much they have defrosted affects the time. less than 5 min i'd expect.

They don't go soggy but are not as "crisp" as straight from the oven but are as close as possible for a micro spud.

    Hi jadeytee,

I don't know how long jacket potatoes will last because I like to make them freshly but I'd guess three days maximum in the fridge.
