Manufacture / design defect help

Options
Hello there,

I purchased a HP w2228h TFT monitor from PC World (yeah, i know) about 11 months ago and it has now got several insects behind the LCD matrix, but in front of the backlight.

Two of these insects have now died, so i'm stuck with two big black marks in the middle of my screen.

The monitor i purchased wasn't a cheapo bottom end of the market jobbie, it cost about £240.

In my view this fault is either a design or manufacture defect - it shouldn't be possible for insects to crawl inside a monitor like this. It's not near a window or anywhere else where they they would be flying around.

Am i within my rights to demand a replacement from PC World?

I fear that if they repair the product they may remove the flies, but the core problem remains, and they'll just keep on coming back, and of course, the older monitor is, the more hassle it will be to get it fixed.

I also don't want to be without the monitor for an extended period of time whilst they repair it.

Also, if i contact the manufacturer, HP tend to send out reconditioned units as warranty swap outs. This to me is not satisfactory - it's not my fault this monitor has an inherent fault, and i don't want a refurbished unit, fundamentally, if i had known that this monitor was likely to suffer from this problem i would not have purchased it.

I've spoken to PC World, they're not that helpful (no surprises there), basically fobbing me off with the 'it's the manufactures responsibility' line.

What's the best way forward?
