Problems with my new washer

Options
I bought a new washing machine (hotpoint) in april this year and it is putting small holes in my clothes. I know it sounds strange but they are apprearing like little pin pricks on about 6-7 items of clothing now.

I rang the place I bought it from and they sent out a hotpoint engineer, he plugged it ino his laptop and said he couldn't find any problems. I tried to be persistent but he fired me off and said out your delicates in a pillow case and if thats plucks ring back, he said it was prob an underwire bra and whatever it was has now gone.

But the probelm has noe stopped, I have been putting delicates in the bag they provide( even though it says in the manaul that it is only for quilted things) but t shirts etc I have left loose in the machine. Now they have holes.

Surely I can't be expected to put every item in a bag to have it come out of the wash without damage. What should I do and should hotpoint be re-embursing me for the items that are now "holey"?

Thanks for reading
Tee

If I remember correctly watchdog investigated an issue similar to this many years ago, there have also been reported issues with the actual washing solution.

First things first, change your washing powder/liquid/tabs etc and see if that makes a difference. If not and the holes are still appearing, then it must be the machine in which case you should document each peice of clothing that gets damaged and where the damage is, and also the date you washed them and the settings that you used to wash them.

Report the fault again, if they find no issue with the machine then you need to follow this up with a formal complaint to the manufacturers providing them with an inventory of all your damaged items, the wash settings and dates.

If they are not prepared to replace the machine for you or offer you compensation then you need to go a step further and contact either Trading Standards or Consumer Direct.

You must allow them reasonable time to respond to and rectify the issue before approaching Trading Standards or Consumer Direct.
