Toilet cistern not refilling

We have a 3 year old toilet cistern, fitted by MFI.

The past couple of days when using the push-button flush, the toilet hardly refills.

We are thinking of calling a plumber tomorrow, but is there anything we can do ourselves. Water pressure in kitchen and bathrooms seems alright, so don't think that is the problem.

If you push the float down inside, does it fill?

No, it doesn't.

The toilet does fill though very slowly. Other water supply seems fine.

It's a push-button 2 stage system.

Probably some detritus in the ball valve

Just needs taking apart and cleaning out most probably :j

Hmm, could be:

Furring up of inlet pipe (hard water areas, possible)
Ball valve clogged (if it's a high pressure one with a small jet, it happens sometimes)
Inlet valve clogged (rubber disc, can get slimy and jam up)

Don't know how handy you are with DIY but if you can empty the cistern and turn supply off you could take flush mechanism apart to inspect, sometimes just taking apart and putting back together can cure it.

Could be a torbeck type valve, if the washer splits they can fill slowly, as opposed to overflowing.

If it is a ball valve this might help-

If it is one of the modern type valves I am sure that they will not be too difficult to fix. At the very worst you could replace the whole inlet valve.
