    Cleaning the first two is easy enough, but to clean the CPU fan you will have to remove the plastic ducting/cover over the fan and heatsink to get to it.

    one of the fans had a green plastic cover over it which I removed & cleaned & it wasn't that one - I haven't been back inside as I've got so much to catch up on now its working & I thought as those new RAM should be with me in a day or 2, when I go in I'll check the diagram & let you know which one was the culprit then

    Good, that's the CPU fan (the processor fan). I was worried you might have missed that one. It must be the PSU fan (or the graphics card fan if fitted). Make sure that both of those are also cleaned.

  • installed the RAM ok - I think the fan was a graphic card fan from what I can make out but cleaned anyway & no repeat of noise etc - thanx one & all
