South norwood?

Does anyone know south norwood?
I recently saw a property I liked but close to Hight street (SE25) and norwood junction train station, I am not sure if it is a good place (road, noise...) if anyone lived in this area or know a website with good informations about it let me know. ;)

  • I don't really know it, but i travel on business around that area a fair bit- it's typical SE london commuter land- being near a station and high street will be good when i comes to selling on i would presume-

take a drive around the area at different times of the day/week and try and judge the feel.
I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!

The majority of South Norwood is an absolute dump. House prices are low there and for good reason really. The roads running north of the High Street to Whitehorse Lane are very near to Selhurst Park (Crystal Palace FC) and Saturdays are a nightmare for parking and traffic congestion.Portland Road is deserted of shops and pretty much always has been.

It's not all bad, but I'd prefer to be further from the station in the directions of Croydon and Crystal Palace. Woodside Green is quite pretty.

    Out of interest, which road?
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Hi, I also looked at South Norwood because the prices were so good, but in the end went for somewhere smaller closer to where I already lived - there are definitely lots of vaguely affordable pockets of South East London of varying niceness out there if you look around though.

I find the area information on https://www.findaproperty.co.uk to be quite useful for getting an idea of what the area is like, it includes comments from people who live there. Also the Move That website has a section called "My xxxx" - My South Norwood, My Blackheath etc where locals of diff areas of London swap comments and local advice.

    Hope that helps...

I had a friend who lived in South Norwood for 20+ years, but was never too keen on the area. After being being medically retired last year he sold up & moved out of London. The low property prices are one of it's major appeals no doubt & perhaps it's proximity to Croydon, but there are nicer area's where you could find something half decent at a reasonable price. As Dozergirl mentions, Crystal Palace is worth a look, and Anerley & Penge are too.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
