Thanks Taffy,
I was just looking at the same thing on ebuyer
I have never bought from ebuyer, does anyone know if they are 'OK'
They will deliver on tuesday for free, but amazon want 8.80 for the same service
Thanks again
Carmen x
PS. What is the difference between usb 2.0 and usb 16mb cache?
PPS. Opps, I see ebuyer charge nearly ten pounds for express delivery:O0 -
There are differing opinions about eBuyer. I won't offer one though since I have not used their service.
I have used Amazon many times without problem. I have always used the free delivery option when available. Delivery still doesn't take long, provided the item is in stock.
The 16mb cache you refer to above acts as a buffer while transferring data. For USB2 though I don't see what real difference this would make.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -

Personally never had a problem.
I've always gone for the '5 day supersaver' delivery, and it's often 3 or 4 days and I'm at the other end of the country.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
My new hard drive arrived yesterday :j I'm so excited yet nervous at the same time:o
Thanks again to everyone on this post and the others in getting me to this point, but I have one more question please, before I plug it in.
My computer will not be back until tuesday (long story) and I would like to know if the h/d works ok, can I plug it into my sis' computer, just to see if all is ok? If I do this, maybe transfer a photo from here, then unplug it will my h/d still show on her computer?
Hope this makes sense?

No it won't still show. But do make sure you "safely remove hardware" using the icon next to the clock in the bottom right corner (green arrow thing on XP, cant remember on Vista).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

You need to do the following: Click on Start > control panel > admin tools > computer management > disc management you will see a new raw disc drive then format and assign the new drive by right clicking and choosing the option. (drive needs to be on and connected) Hope this helps0 -

Sorry, I'm not sure/understanding what to do once I have reached the above
I clicked on the only part that read format, but I pop up said I would erase  'things'

Carmen,
What lemonslap is kindly trying to explain to you is that your new drive may have been supplied to you formatted in a manner that Windows cannot read.
If that is so, you will need to re-format it into something that Windows can read.
You do that by following lemonslap's instructions.
The warning message that you are seeing is correct. Re-formatting it will indeed erase anything that's on it. But that's what you want to do. It's a new drive: there's nothing on it that you want to keep.
Do, however, make absolutely certain that the drive you are telling Windows to re-format really is the new one!
In view of the fact that your new drive has a capacity of 500 GB (which is a lot) you may wish to partition it into two or more volumes of lesser size. (For example, two partitions of 250 GB each). If so, now is the moment to do this - while it's empty and while you are re-formatting it. Doing so at a later date, once it's got data of yours on it, will be more complicated.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
