Somebody was asking on Freecycle for a gas bottle a few days ago, i emailed to say i have one which he could have and he messaged back to say he'd been offered several and so went to pick up the one closest to his home.
OP try your Freecycle, you get a choice.

Last time I refilled my 4.5kg butane it was £11.50 at Morrisons. It's probably £13 topps to fill one from a gas bottle suppliers.

To buy one full is about £35 to £40.

It's overpriced, as you can buy LPG with road tax added for 40 to 50p a litre and I think 4.5kg is less than 10 litres if I remember right.

If you are going to use a lot, it works out cheaper to buy an attachment that enables you to fill the bottle from an autogas pump at a fraction of the cost of the refill. I think the attachments are about £30 though.
  • I've used Flogas (Google for web site) since their prices include delivery and they are quick and you can order on line

    Current prices are -

9 Kg patio cylinder is £22.05

    11kg (taller) cylinder is £26.78

Unfortunately they will charge you an extra £29.99 if you dont have an exchange cylinder so the total prices are £52 for 9 Kg and £57 for 11 kg so they are cheaper than your findings.

I usually use flogas instead of calor. Flogas are cheaper, half the time they haven't needed bottles back, so I've picked up a new bottle with no exchange, and the council tips here let you take the flogas bottles away if you do need one ever, but they never have calor though.

How do you get the deposit back on Calor bottles... I have 6 of the 4ft high bottles which where used for heating of a now defunct workshop.
Local calor dealer would not take them and said i would have hassle getting the deposit back from calor??? Bloody rip off if thats the case??
I save so I can spend.

Thanks folks, got a 7kg (Butane) from Flogas for £12.27 the 13kg was £16.94 but a bit too big for me, luckily my dad has an old cylinder he gave me :)

Seems propane is allot dearer than butane

You need the original paper work to obtain a refund. I think it's like a hire agreement type thing that proves you paid the deposit in the first place.

Never had one as got my two bottles from the tip for free. I doubt you will cash them in without the papers, but they do sell for a good price on ebay.
