Tesco Credit Card-Clubcard problem at some petrol pumps

On odd occassions at various petrol stations my Tesco Mastercard/Clubcard is not recognised by the Tesco filling station pump - I get an error message saying that the clubcard has not been recognised - I can, however, pay for the petrol as it is recognised as a credit card. I've also found, as I did a couple of days ago, that I can go into the Tesco supermarket immediately after paying for fuel and use the card as both a clubcard and a credit card with no problems at all. This has happened maybe only 3 or 4 times in the last 6 months - most of the time it is okay - has anyone else had the same problem, noticed any kind of pattern or know of any reason for this? It made me wonder just how many other customers are losing out on Tesco points. I rang the Tesco clubcard line and they were not able to distinguish between in-store and petrol purchases so I copied a list of the last 6 transactions from the clubcard information line that I'd been given points for and rang the credit card line and found one transaction not listed by the clubcard system which was for the fuel transaction where the clubcard was not recognised. The credit card line insisted that I would have received points for the transaction but I was not convinced. If I can be bothered I will have to grab my credit card bills and go through the list of petrol purchases with the clubcard people to find out if I have been given the points for each transaction. I like the Tesco clubcard but have a lot of problems with the various Tesco services - mobile phones in particular when it comes to adding credit because we own 4 phones and have only 1 credit card and we top up so infrequently because we hardly use the phones but that's a whole other financial Ragnarok.

    At the moment there is an issue with pay at pump and personal finance cards being recognised as clubcards, the only thing we are told is about adding them at the customer service desk until IT fix the issue.
  • Have had the same problem myself in the past - think it is sporadic rather than all the time - and most recently happened Jan 1st 2011!!

    Clubcard call centre says known problem trying to fix - looks like they've trying for while!!

    What chance we all get our missing points back when they fix it? Would sure be a good customer sat opportunity. What chance MSE taking up our cause for us?

    Its to do with firmware 3.75 they deployed to PFS stations, At legacy and rollback sites the issue doesnt exist :)

    Or request a receipt and next time you go into a store have them added?

    Some PFS sites will add them with the receipt!!
  • I've had this problem for several months. I get a receipt (when the receipt bit is working!) and take it in to have my points put on
