Prvate parking fines

In April we parked in a supermarket 2hr free car park in Rye. On returning relised we had gone over the 2 hours then as we left noticed a sign saying cameras in force and parking tickets sent by mail. We did not hear anything till end of June when we got a ticket dated 23/06/09 saying we owed £40 in 14 days or £70. This seemed excessive delay Company said had just heard back from DVLA. We know this is lie as have written confirmation from them they sent our details to company on 21/04/09 over 2 months earlier. I have written stating the British Parking Association Code of practise guide clearly states must be sent within 28 days. They ignored this letter and are now demanding £110 or court/bailiffs. I say fight but my husband wants to pay - surely I am right and they cannot enforce this ticket. It was a private co not council. Any advise much appreciated.

Make sure your husband doesn't pay (you don't need to fight either). Take no notice of them unless they issue genuine court papers (in which case come back for help with a defence)0

And, of course, it wasn't a "fine", just an unenforcible invoice. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Especially in free car parks with a time limit, how can they claim when there's no loss suffered by them? Even more so when you have a receipt for items purchased from the shop(s) to which the car park is attached...
As others said, ignore.
