HSBC - Charged £69 for 2 cheques?

Hi, i went over drawn (slap wrist) the cheques were worth less than £20, on the same day i went and paid in £20 to cover these cheques.

I then rang the 'customer service' number and was told that i would be charges £25 per cheque and £19 overdraft fee.

I am fuming, i know it was my mistake but i did go in and pay money to cover these cheques.

The charge seems really o.t.t., im thinking of closing my account. What do you think my chances are of getting any of this money back just by calling them and threatening to close my account?

I already have sent hte letters to reclaim other bank charges but all that is on hold.

Any idea? £69 seems A LOT of money for 2 cheques that added up to £18.50

Might be worth asking them about their fair fees policy?

thanks, can u give me anymore details on that?

this was a few weeks ago, i suffer from despression and i was in a bad spell, i basically felt like a had a melt down while i was on the phone to hsbc and was just told that if i had left the money in the account then i wouldnt be in this situation. that might be true but not what i needed at the time. i dont mind paying a charge but £69 is extortionate

It's on their website but having looked at it. I don't think it applies so I think you are gonna have to start the process of reclaiming.
