  • Having been in a similar situation this time last year I sympahise with your situation.... I can t tell from your post if this was a package holiday or something you booked independently?

Firstly finger crossed for your Mum... Much more important than the holiday cost I guess

Re the Holiday... which insurance company, did you get a name for the call advising you to take the action you did...and do you know the time of the call (this is very important as most firms will have recorded your original conversation)

I do think they were not giving you best advice to just replace your Mum for someone else - all they did with this was to ensure they were not liable. Presumably you were fully covered from your post and they should have offered this protection.

When your Mum was let out of hospital, I feel sure you would have known that further tests were likely and therefore you should not have been made to feel that simply changing the holiday was the best course of action.

I would go back to the insurance company without delay.... Say you wish to speak to someone about lodging a complaint about advice given and if you get no further with them, say you will be putting in writing.

Let us know how you get on.
  • Maybe you can change it to a later date for not much charge?

I booked a package holiday with Jet2 so changing it to another dte is not possible, my nephews too young to go away on his own, and I feel I may have a claim anyway as I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and since hearing the news about my mum I am in the middle of having a flare up, think it's caused by shock so will have to go see doctor tomorrow, if I get no joy I will go to the insurance ombudsman as said earlier its my mums health that I'm more worried about, but I do feel Virgin Insurances did direct me wrong with their advice. cheers xx
