ESA Medical - how many??

OH had his ESA medical and we received this week a letter from DWP stating that they are moving him into the support group and his benefit is also going up. (He also gets DLA mobility higher rate and Care lower).

However, the day after the DWP letter, we received another one from Atos telling him that he needed a medical. So he called them and said that he had already had the medical and told them the outcome. They were adamant that the ESA medicals are a 2-stage process and that he will need another one.

I thought it was one medical. Have I missed something??

It's the first time I have heard of this, but I am sure someone with better knowledge than mine will be along to help out. I would ring the DWP on Monday just to check though.

hi yes this is correct you normally have 2 medicals within roughly 6 weeks of each other im not sure what the reason for this is as not a lot would have changed within that time and to me it seems a waste of time/money...but yes its true.

We will take it that he will have to attend both, but will also call DWP on Monday just to double check!

maybe it's to catch out those that shouldn't be entitled to it, but the stress for those that are, is unfair.
