is gas better than charcoal???
serious question as i have never ever used a gas bbq or been to one
When we were buying our barbecue we asked in the shop about the differences in taste between gas and charcoal cooking. They told us they that when they go to shows they do blind tastings of charcoal versus gas cooked food and consistenly find people can't tell which is which. Apparently this is because the 'barbecue' flavour comes from the fat from the food hitting the coals or bars below it and generating the smoke. This happens with both charcoal and gas.
He also admitted they really enjoyed seeing the people who insist on charcoal being much better not being able to tell which was which in the blind tasting!
We went for a weber gas barbecue and I probably use it two or three times a week in summer. I definitely wouldn't be doing that with a charcoal barbecue0 -

Correct!
I also have both & once the gas BBQ has been used a few times it tastes exactly the same as the flavour comes from the dripped juices, i'd defy anyone to tell the difference.............It's all in your head...;)What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
Still had quite a few of these left in the Dundee (Kingsway East) store yesterday. Many thanks to OP.:j0

Hi, we have an asda 3 burner gas bbq model number 849021 we bought about 3 years ago, we have broken the left grill plate, does anyone know where we can get spares from or if there is a UK supplier as the address on the bbq is for China???
Many thanks0 -
my dad has a gas BBQ and it seems to taste better - i asked him this and he said his has a tray where you put some wood chips and it smokes the food as well as cooking it? but even without that i'd defy anyone to say it didnt taste as good as it was bang on.0
