Never been with EDF but theyve given me THREE different stories

About a month ago I recieved a bill for £900 from EDF energy for my previous address. Which was odd..seeing as i have ALWAYS been with British Gas!

I called them, and the man i spoke to ummed and uhhed and went away after i explained the above. He came back, and his exact very sheepish words were ;Im not meant to tell you this, but we send arrears letters out to make peole ring us, and then we send someone round to read your meter amd switch you to us. So jjust ignore that letter.'

Two weeks later I get a billfor £250, and this time the girl I spoke to ummedand ahhed and said there was some kinf of meter mix up cross over issue, and not to worry.

I got a letter today saying that all my readings were estimates and could they do a meter reading. i was sent tomy currenta ddress but quoted my old address. I called them up, furious and told them what I had been told before. And this time the operator at EDF told me i had agreed face to face with a telemarketing man in april 2008 to switch and they had sent bills ever since. they also said that they had my bank acct details and names which bank i was with.

I know this is crock, because my old address was a flat without a doorbell and i lived upstairs. i coudlnt hear the front door (and usually thought it was my weird downstairs neightbour) i know i havent agreed to anything. and i know i didnt sign a contract. The operator laims he can send my contract out to me. so, i will await....but what shall i do now?

  • Sounds very strange, even for EDF. Go straight to the regulator Ofgem to complain. (www.ofgem.gov.uk/)

Has British Gas billed you for the period from April 2008?

If EDF have sent you a bill, they must have set up an account for you - it'll be stated on the bill. Strange that EDF would know your name and your previous address and set up an account for you at that address if they had not actually taken over the supply at that property.

I would wait until the evidence of the contract EDF has arrives as promised and then post further.

You may want to investigate if the Erroneous Transfer Customer Charter could help you in this instance.
