Butlins Holiday Booked - Eldest Son has Chickenpox!

Options
As the title states we have a Butlins holiday booked for the end of next week and my five year son currently has chicken pox (first spots came out Sunday).

I have spoken to Butlins and quite rightly they say he will not be allowed to go if the spots have not scabbed over. My youngest son (8 months) has not had chicken pox and by the law of averages will probably come down with it during the next few weeks. Butlins have told us that we can cancel through the insurance if he comes down with it before we get there or we will have to leave the resort if the spots appear while we are there.

I totally agree with what Butlins are saying but does anyone know what I would have to do to make a claim - would I need to get a Dr's note etc.

It should tell you how to claim and the procedure on the insurance form that you get with the letter of confirmation

Could you change the date of your holiday with Butlins? I know they charge an admin fee to change the date (it used to be £15) but at least you won't missout on a holiday

Thanks for the replies - sadly we cant change the date as hubby can only get one week off work. I will also read the info again that came with the booking.

my 5 year old had chicken pox a few weeks back and she was fine to go back to school after 6 days, as far as i know its before the spots the come out that your son would have been infectious.

it it was me i would still go as after 5-6 days your son should be fine and the spots should have scabbed over.

    hth.

just to add i also have a 16 month old she never caught the pox dispite the 2 sharing water bottles and a room, even the gp said she would catch it.

even if the baby does come out in spots when you are away think it takes 3 weeks for the spots to appear, then the baby won't be mixing with any one as such so i would still go.

i went most of my life without getting it, then got it when my kids had it! By the way, please make sure all he spots have scabbed over and don't go by the day thing, i know you really want to go, but if your child is still infectious you could give it to a pregnant woman who has never had it and that can be dangerous for her and the baby and is most likely to happen in an enclosed area like Butlins. Fingers crossed that you are able to go!

Also, i think you get the price of the holiday back but minus the deposit, i could be wrong but i'm sure that's what i read.

The infectious period is 3 days before the spots come out, then until all the spots have scabbed over
