Rear Mounted Bike rack for Ford Focus?

Hi - I am hoping for some advice please.

I need to get a bike rack (rear mounted as we don't have roof bars or tow bar) suitable for 2 bikes. I want to avoid getting a lighting board. We have a 54 reg ford focus.

Does anyone know what rack would be suitable in this case?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Is your car the new shaped Focus (2004-2008) or the older model (2002-2004). Being 54 reg it could be either an early new shape or late older shape?

My dad has the new shaped Focus and has got a rear bike rack - if yours is the new shape I will find out the details from my dad.

Thule ones are meant to be pretty good.

It will be almost impossible to get a rear mounted rack that will not need a lighting board to keep 100% legal due to the high lights and mid position number plate. Most high mounts will be ok providing you don't do anything else wrong to attract the interest of the plod

sorry - should have said it is the old shape.

Lighting boards look really complicated to wire up, hence looking to avoid them - are they easy to use or not?
  • Sorry to resurrect an old thread. But same question - are lighting boards hard to wire up? I have an 03 Focus, have 3 bikes to transport.

  • I've been putting off a bike rack for so long, as I was going to need a lighting board to stay legal. It was either that, or I was going to be getting the Thule aero bars with roof mounted bike holders.
