Router keeps reseting itself

My router (the sky version of a netgear DG834 I think it is) every so often refuses point blank for any of my PCs or our ipod to connect wirelessly.

So I plug an ethernet cable into it, and find out everything I have changed (router password, SSID name, WPA password, access lists etc) have all been reset to their factory settings. So I change them all again, and two days later, they have been reset back to the factory defaults.

The only way I know how to reset these is by dismantling a biro and pushing it into a tiny hole on the back of the router - something none of us have done.

Any idea what has caused this? Is this sort of thing a common thing with routers, or should I consider contacting Sky?

Could the reset switch be stuck?

You could dismantle and biro and push the reset button as above said it could be stuck , doing this might release it

Exactly! Though a paper-clip would be better...
  • Yes it does sound like it's getting a hard reset. Try operating the reset switch a few times.

If you feel competent you can convert the 'sky' router back to a standard netgear router and then take advantage of netgear's software upgrades. Instructions here:
