I try to buy my fresh veg from a local greengroceer and meat from a local Butcher

    I totally agree.

Profits from these big mainland companies Tesco, Boots, Charles Hurst(Lookers) etc. etc. are not always spent in N Ireland

I've found myself using local butchers and greengrocers more and more over the last year. I get much better quality and value in my opinion.

Problem is, apart from small, local family run premisies there are no (Or very few) larger truely Local supermarkets and those that there are have to source the cheap "Foreign" stuff to compete with the big 3 in Northern Ireland. I'm not saying they don't support "Northern Ireland" produce but is it truely "Local"?
    EG..
Can you define potates sold in a "Local" shop in fermanagh, supplied through Wilson Country foods which are proably grown in North Antrim as "Local Produce".
And then you get into foodstuffs supplied by "Local" suppliers but they source it from GB or Southern Ireland.... can this be called "Local Produce" because chances are the local supplier has his name on it..

I heard that rumor a year or so ago but just heard it again today from someone in the store that Sainsburys are still looking to take it over.
