Is there a point to this?
we were discussing te longer (18 month) performance of ebay and amazon shares by comparison and you have posted a five day chart simply because it shows ebay climbing and amazon droping, is this an attempt to prove ebay are out performing amazon?
they are not, even with the slow rise of ebay shares that the five day chart shows above ebay shares are still at half the value they once where, meanwhile Amazon shares took an after hours drop, lets see how they do when trading opens again next week before we make any rash assumptions, my money's on a fast recovery, they call that fluctuation.
ebay shares have dropped and stayed low for over 1 year, they call that a prolonged slump.
Do you get the difference?0 -
No, simply to repudiate your comments that I quoted... is this an attempt to prove ebay are out performing amazon?...

ok but the fact remains, ebay shares are still performing poorly and amazon shares are strong.
Put it this way, if i was looking to buy a bunch of shares right now i'd buy amazon shares not ebay shares as if i was lucky enough to get them at around $86 a share i know i'll be selling them by the end of next week at around $92-$94 a share, i couldn't hope for a similar return on ebay shares, not this year anyway.0 -

No i didn't but if i did i wouldn't be worrying just yet, the mid $80's a share is pretty much Amazon's average price, the last time they peaked above $90 was 18 months ago and then it was only for a week or so, however i'd predict amazon shares getting above $90 again within the next week or two but if i'm wrong i know they'll get there by christmas.
where as ebay are 18 months and counting waiting to reach their all time peak again. Ebay have had a slow, steady increase over recent months but it's still a very small and very long over due increase, i still wouldn't invest in ebay stock personally.0 -

According to the article above taken from Reuters some city analysts are touting ebay shares as a "best buy" due mainly to an overall 39% increase in share price since the start of the year. That should bring a smile to some peoples faces, mentioning no names (Premier, Soolin, Stevew8975, smart but casual, cyberbob
)
however it is still worth noting that just because ebay shares are providing a good investment for those who bought at the start of this year when shares were as low as $10 each it is without doubt there are many out there who bought shares in 2007 and 2008 at around $30-$40 a share who would beg to differ, and when you consider that today’s $21 a share price is still almost half of what ebay shares used to command it's a little early to be popping the champagne just yet i feel.
One paragraph worth noting in the article above is the one near the end of the article which mentions uncertainty about ebay's future marketplace, this is the very reason that i would not buy ebay shares right now as i honestly feel that if ebay see through their blatant plans to create an "Amazon style" selling platform they will lose their place in the market as no one wants or needs another amazon, what we want is ebay and by ebay i mean an auction site, because that's what ebay are and that’s what they'll always be, no matter how hard they try not to be.0
