just off mobile to hydro , that'l cost me and as usual all they give you is the times , i asked for a terms and conditions booklet on economy 10 , eh sorry we dont have one, I suspect their claim that all electricity used during the cheap rate is half price is a complete falsehood and only kicks in after a certain amount of units is used therefore really only applies in winter and in summer when using less you can never reach that cut off point , the meter doesnt lie , after i switched on that water this afternoon the standard rate meter ticked off 6 units and the cheap 2 , :mad:0

Economy 10 meters outside of East Anglia (10 PES) are effectively reprogrammed E7 meters to have a period in the afternoon and evening recording on the second cheap rate as well as the night time period. They can only record on one rate or the other not both as there is only one circuit connected to the meter. (10 PES have a dedicated heating circuit which records completely seperately)
So at somepoint it looks like the times switched over between rates, so your heating has to match these times to take advantage. anything used on the lower rate will be charged at a lower price, but since its only one circuit any heating used outside of that time will be charged at the higher rate.
Conversly, anything like tumble dryers, etc can be used cheaply during this period so it can work in your favour.
I would query the times that the meter switches. There is usually a visual indication of what rate the meter is recording on. mostly likely the rate is displayed without pressing the display button to cycle through the reads.
It's very important that your meter and heating times are matched otherwise you will be paying through the nose for your heating.
hope this helps explain things.0 -
