Laptop power connector pin

My laptop, it's only just 9 months old, has been sent for repair and they have said that the power connector pin has been broken.
The company are insistent that this has occured by what they call accidental damage. Now as far as I am concerned there has been no accidental damage, I am only one who uses the laptop and I am perfectly capable of putting the power cable in correctly so in my opinion the pin has broken due to manufacturing issue. Anyway I have already disputed the issue with the company and have not got very far but I intend to take the it further (if you want to read whole story look at this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1803513)
What I am really posting for is this, is it common for the power connector pins to break like this without there being any foul play so to speak?

The connection is feeble to say the least, yes it can be damaged but any play in the connection can cause it to fail. I'd push them to repair it as many years working n IT I have seen many examples of this problem.
Who is the manufacturer of the laptop, tell them that you only use the laptop on a desk and rarely unplug the power adapter.
It also helps to quote the right words when speaking to some numb nut who has zero technical experience and is reading from a script. I know I have logged many a warranty call for my users an have to deal with this day in and day out. If its Fujitsu let me know.0 -

Thank you! I was pretty sure these could just break without foul play after all they are just soldered in and soldering is not perfect!!! The manufacturer is Acer and their attitude in dealing with this has put me off buying anything from them again!0 -
Say that it must have been a faulty solder connection during manufacture that resulted in a dry joint that has caused the problem with your laptop. If that gets you no where then tell them that you have an intermittent problem where you laptop powers down all by itself and you suspect a motherboard failure/issue.0

It's about the most common failure on any laptop, especially if you use it on mains power on your lap.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for the replies. I just feel the manufacturers were too quick to say it was accidental damage and then anything I said in reply I was made to feel like I was lying. Just ridiculous! I mean I even had to put in a complaint in order to get full details of fault as up till then all they would tell me was "lower case damaged"0

Single most common failure on any laptop.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
