Hi all
I'm due to go over to america in a few months and i need to make a purchase of about £6,000 while i'm over there.
I was wondering whether any of you kind souls could recommend a UK card that is likely to be accepted and will have the lowest handling charge for an overseas purchase?
Added benefits like cash back ect would be an added bonus..but aren't necessary. I intend to pay the balance off as soon as the purchase goes through so interest rates are not so important.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Any card that belongs to a scheme (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) accepted by the merchant should be accepted. Cash advances are charged interest from the date of the transaction (at 20-30% APR), so I'd suggest interest rates are fairly important if that's what you want to do.0

The Santander (Abbey) Zero credit card maybe a good option. This is one of the only cards that does not charge a foreign transaction fee. This fee typically ranges from 2.75% to 3% on most credit cards.
If you are looking for rewards 2 cards are probably the best option
1) The Amex Platinum Cashback card - This has 5% cashback on purchases for the first 3 months. So even after the 2.99% foreign transcation fee you will net 2% of your £6K spend = £120. However you should make sure you get this card as close to your travel date as possible as the 5% cashback is only for 3 months and after that drops to 0.5%-1.5% afterwards based on your spend
2) The BMI Amex Cashback Card - If you are into traveling then you could eark 20K miles by spending £250 in the first 3 months. Based on your £6K spend the value of your reward would be around £230. However you will be paying £165 in foreign transcation fee so would net you £230-£165 = £65.
You can compare other rewards cards on our site comparetopcards.co.uk - but these I feel are the best options.0
