DLA Question about work?

Options
Hi folks, i'm 33 and have been claiming DLA high rate for the past 3 years after a car crash which resulted in the loss of my left leg, i can get about with a prosthesis quite well, but from time to time i have problems with skin, rubbing etc.. Which means i'm stuck on the sofa for a few days..

Pretty soon after the accident i started University with the intention of getting a degree, i've just finished my degree with a pass and am now going on to the masters in web development.. I'd just like to know if i can still claim anything, once i've passed out and got a job, i'm guessing i wont be entitled to the high rate but am i entitled to anything... ???

hello there and welcome the boards, stick around, its very addictive especially when you hit the 'new posts' at the top.

As far as i know from reading these boards you can still claim DLA (although at what level i dont know) and work

Please forgive me for having to look twice at some of your post and no offence is intended (i am female by the way) at a first glance i thought you had written
'I can get about with a prostitute very well' my face must have been a picture until i re-read it - hope it makes you smile too.
And congratulations on your acheivements so far.

As for the original question, guess i need to give them a call to find out for sure huh... Thx for taking the time to reply anyways .. G! x

and there was me thinking that it was just the stuff of mens dreams of walking along the beach with a fishnet wearing 40 year old. (female, that is) Mind i suppose it depends where she was wearing the fish net (sp):rotfl:

(and yes, i do realise you meant fishnet stockings) but i couldnt help myself.:rotfl:

DLA is awarded for the needs arising from a disability and not the disability itself. You say that you can get around quite well using the prosthesis, this means that you no longer qualify for the higher rate mobility component.
DLA is not a means tested benefit and working and claiming it is not an issue unless your job contradicts your claimed disability (for example saying you have a bad back and then working as a brickie).
If you are reasonably mobile most of the time (as your post implies) I'd phone them up and report the improvement. Yes you may lose you DLA but it will be a lot easier to get a job if you dont have a conviction for benefit fraud on your record.
