Halifax charge problem. Any hope?

I reclaimed some bank charges from Halifax about 4 years ago. Got about 2 grand back. I've not had a bank charge since. Sorted myself out somewhat financially and everything has been fine.
Until the last few months.. My hours were cut at work and things, like I'm sure they are for everyone else have got a lot tighter.. I'm just about getting through at the moment.. But I expect my income to go up n the next month or two so I have had no problem just "getting by"...
Until now.
I renegotiated my mobile phone contract recently and got my bills down a bit.. But the only problem was, with the start of a new contracts they took out the first payment from my account about a week earlier than they usually would.. And I didn't have the funds to cover it..
It was much. I went over my athorised overdraft by like 4 quid.. And the second I saw it (the same day) I rushed to the bank and put the money back in to get back up and over..
Anyway.. I just got the dreaded letter.. For that 10 or so hours my account was over I've gonna gets a £35 fee and an unauthorised overdraft charge of 35 quid..
I am gutted. This is really going to mess me up in the short term. The money will come out on the 4th of august.. and with things being so tight I really am going to go over again, and then when other bills come out it;s just gonna get worse.
I worry this might spiral into something terrible as it was a similar problem, about ten years ago (along with me being an idiot) that got me into trouble last time.
I called the Halifax and they essentially said tough look. You claimed back charges and in doing so agreed to except any further charges.. Which I guess I did, didnt I.
They said they will send it to some internal customer services department type thing to see if they can do anything.. But the guy on the phone said he and his manager have no authority and can't doing anything abou it.
So is that true? Is that it? Am I screwed here? Is there any chance this internal department will do anything? Or was I just being fobbed off.
Any help here would be great guys.
Cheers.
Deann.
