Barclaycard not being used enough!!!!

Hi
Thought I might share a letter I have received from Barclaycard.
Dear..........
We've noticed you haven't used your card for some time, which may be because you no longer need your Barclaycard. If this isn't the case you need to do one of the following by 22 August 2009
If you don't wish to keep your card, you don't need to contact us and the account will be closed after the 22nd August 2009...............

Errrrr....The last time I used my card was 7th July and this arrived on the 22nd, so because I haven't used the card in the last two weeks, Barclaycard are forcing me to use it in August to keep the card.
Is this a scam or is it for real?.
Any comments will be appreciated as I am flabbergasted and not a little put out.

They are not forcing you to use it as they give you the option to call instead but the letter is a bit strange I grant you0

Thanks for looking at my thread.
Has anyone else had a letter like this? either recently or in the past?
We've had a card for about thirty years and always pay the balance off in full.
We can't understand it especially as the credit companies are asking customers to be responsible in their spending habits.

Just ring them and tell them that you definitely want the card and that you haven't left the account unused for any more than 2 weeks. I am sure its just been a mistake at their end, remember computers do sometimes go wrong!Vanquis- Limit £1250, balance £0
Capital One Classic- Limit £800, balance £0
Natwest Current Account- £800 OD limit, approx £600 OD
Loan- £3300, will be paid off by Dec 09
Student Loan- paid off Dec 09 (That's £150 a month extra! Woohoo)
Empire Catalogue Account- £750 limit, balance £300 -
You should call them and tell them that you're quite happy with the card if you want to keep it. I'd point out to them that 15 days non-usage is a new record for flagging an account for being potentially dormant
The closure by default part is slightly concerning though. I expect we'll hear more from people who haven't received/read the letter and have their cards closed.
EDIT: I wouldn't phone any number on the letter, but the number on the back of your card just incase it's a phishing attempt."A child of five could understand this. Fetch me a child of five." - Groucho Marx0 -
Thanks for your comments.
We had already decided not to use the number given as I am highly dubious of this letter.
My husband is going to take the letter to our local Barclays on Monday and ask about it.
I know one isn't credit rated highly if you don't have any debt but this is bordering on idiocy.
If the letter is genuine, it's very strange.0 -

Barclays Bank staff may not be able to shed much light on what Barclaycard is up to, tbh, though presumably they would know whether the stationery is genuine.
Btw, if you ring Barclaycard Card Services (during business hours if possible) on 01604 234234, you'll avoid the perishing 0870/0844 numbers and, with luck, the overseas call centre
Note: this is not a static connection. During busy periods, it dynamically routes the call overseas.
Alternatively, you can call 0800 9177 277I, disregard the prompt for your account number & HOLD for customer services
Very best

I'm a Barclaycard customer and I've never had this letter. It's odd they would send that letter though. I could understand if it was more than 9months or something. Maybe Barclaycard need some extra revenue this month and want you to call up using their 0870 number. I'm joking of course!0

They maybe trying to get rid of customers that are not making them money, after all they borrow money at rates to lend to us.0
