Sony portable radio - fm, lw, mw

I have a Sony portable radio which is quite old but very useful. However, suddenly although I can get FM clearly, LW and MW have disappeared altogether although there is interference on the channels. I listened to Five Live, Talk Sport and various others regularly so I know that it worked. Nevertheless as the radio works I cannot understand where these have suddenly disappeared to. Can you help. There are no knobs to turn other volume, tone, tune and no switches to flick. I have replaced the batteries and also checked with a mains lead.

Over to you and thanks.

As well as using a different (higher) frequency range, FM uses a different method to carry the radio signals than MW and LW (frequency modulation instead of amplitude modulation). As a result, the antenna and much of the circuitry is different for FM.

In all probability a component has failed in the MW/LW specific parts.
