Natwest Overdraft charges??

I applied for an overdraft on my current account with Natwest and i was told id be charged £6 something for the extras i get on the account. Which i have no probelm paying.
However last month i recieved my statement which was charges adding up to £69.87.
This included being overdrawn.
Now when i make purchases on my card they do not instantly show up my account meaning i think i have more money than i actually do.
Meaning i get overdrawn.
I have to accounts with Natwest the other being a card plus account.
When i use this card for purchases it shows up instantly.
Is there anything i can do to stop these delays in mmy account. i called natwest and just got "with this type of account....blah blah"

I just had 2 quick questions.

    1. What address would I use for sending a template reclaim letter too? Would it be my local branch or is there a special address for these?

    2. I have charges for "Stopped Cheque Fee" I have no idea what these are for and happened way back in 2006. Would I be able to reclaim these back?

    Thanks for your help.

stopped cheque fee is for a cheque that you have asked the bank to stop and non reclaimable.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hope that helps.

That would make sense but I am unaware of EVER stopping a cheque... I can't think of a reason for doing so, CERTAINLY not 3 of them on the same day!! 3 x £10. I would of certainly remembered an incident like that. Could this be for another reason or an error?

    Thanks for the address though!!

Worth asking the bank about the three cheques stopped and if you keep your cheque books and keep records, check what they were for.

Did you sign something which told you about the benefits of the Advantage Blue account? Otherwise you have to have it for 6 months before you can cancel it.

Ok. charges wise, £69.87 doesn't seem right. Is that the total of charges and interest?
If it is one amount what does the bank statement say on that figure?

  • I signed some forms i needed to send back before they would open the account. I assume that'll be what you mean.

The charges on my statement are broken down like this:

    £28 maintenance charge???
    Subscription: £6.95
    Guarenteed card fee: £35
    debit interest: £1.35

    Total deductions: £69.95

If these are your first charges then ask if they will refund them apart from the £6.95 as a gesture of goodwill. Always allow a few days for card transactions(if need be, keep the receipts and work out your balance from whether they have gone out).
If you do not use the benefits of advantage blue then diarise either email or otherwise to get rid of something that is costing you almost £80.00 a year.
