Stress is a biggie, they pee to make themselves feel secure as they can then smell themselves in their territory. They will often return to the same spot as they can smell things we can't! Don't use household bleaches/ammonia as this gives off a smell like urea....leading to them peeing in the same spot. I found the best thing was feliway spray and feliway diffuser - this gives off feline pheromones which makes the cat feel secure. It solved my cats problem (she always did it on returning from cattery).
