Increasing charges with 1899.com

I signed up with 1899.com last year after reading Martin's article. I pay my line rental to NTL and have to dial a pre-fix to make calls. Initially calls were available at their advertised prices i.e. 0p to UK landlines, except for the 3p connection charge. This then moved to 0.5p per minute and a few weeks later to 1p per minute, all without any explanation. The prices stated on their website have not changed.
I emailed their 'customer service' but did not receive a response.
Has anyone else had a similar situation and was there a resolution other than changing provider?

The call charges listed on all of these providers main pages are for people using BT and are correct.
As an NTL/cable/mobile user you need to check out the appropriate page on the website for the correct call charges.

IIRC, 1899's price (3p connection and 1p/minute) for calls to UK 01/02 numbers is the cheapest now available and is considerably cheaper than using the cable landline provider itself for the same calls.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Sadly, Heinz is right that 1p/min and 3p connection isn't too bad in comparison to other options available from cable.
If you mainly make short calls, First Telecom may be worth a look (1.2p minimum call charge, no connection fee, per min charges from 0.8p) or if you mainly make off peak calls the Phone Co-Op Home User tariff (4.7p per call off peak upto 60 mins).0
