Toyota Corolla Verso gearbox problem
Hi, would be grateful for any advice.
My parents own a Toyota Corolla Verso automatic. It is 5 years old and they have had it for about 3 years, no longer in warranty. It developed a funny noise so they took it to their local garage who think the car may need a new gearbox - £2000 without labour - unaffordable as they are retired. They are desperately seeking a cheap replacement car, but is there anything that they can do before they get rid of the Toyota as I think they should try other solutions first.
Thanks, Hawksley.

They're placing a lot of faith in the opinion of a non-specialist garage who 'thinks' that the car needs a new gearbox.
The problem could be any number of things from a £50 fix to a £1000 fix. Get a second opinion from a http://www.fedauto.co.uk/ member.0 -

Yes, think they are pretty shocked and are now panicking!0 -
I agree with PPPL, take it to another garage for a second opinion.
Some dodgy garages have been known to give a spurious diagnosis so that they can hopefully buy the car at a bargain price, especially with owners that know little about cars.0 -
Thanks, have persuaded them to take it to Toyota garage.0

There are well known problems with the Verso MMT gearbox in fact they have stopped using it in the new Verso .
Have they had any additional work done on the gearbox by Toyota I believe there was a recall !!
Make sure you let the Toyota dealer know that there has been major problems with owners who had this gearbox in there car and I believe the warranty was extended because of the problems
Look at the link below and have a read through and I suggest you print it off and take it to the Toyota dealers with you
Hope it helps
