LCD Monitor problem

I have ghosting on a 17" LCD Monitor .The web page or previous application is visible faintly on the desktop even though the application or web browser has been shut down.Any ideas???

    Image Retention or "screen burn" is what it's called. You can read on how to remove it here though it's aimed at Apple displays, it's as relevant for their screens as any, they are all made by a few manufacturers, so don't be put off by the apple logo's.

    It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

    I thought that this wasn't a problem with TFTs and that a screen saver was only really needed with a CRT monitor.

    Things seem to have improved over the last couple of years, screen burn isn't as prevalent as it once was. But there are still some instances of it. It used to be Plasma displays that were usually caught by this in such places as airports (info displays), trading houses (watching bloomberg) or the odd "innocent" teen here

    Newer monitors are more resistant but if an image is left on screen long enough, it could burn in irrespective of the display. There is an interesting article here to this ends.
