I really dont understand the sense behind fining these companies?

How do you think EDF will re-coup that £2 million? Maybe through its customers?

exactly! they'll find ways to suck that £2m back though increased fees, job cuts and the like.

Out of interest, where does that £2m fine end up anyway? does it go to charity, does it get ploughed back into green energy research?

It more than likely finds it's way into fat cats wage packets as a bonus :D:D

Yes - put another way the headline could be "Customers to pay extra £2m into general taxation via EDF".

I was one of the people affected by the recent power cuts. We lost our power on Monday at 12.45 and didn't get it back until Thursday at 06.25, during this time we had no power at all, not even the three hour burst which a lot of people got. We lost all the food in our fridge and two freezers, had to drive out of our area to get a hot drink or a cooked meal, washed in cold water and went through a lot of candles and batteries.

I do not agree with the £2m fine going to the government or the watchdog but would like to see EDF being forced to pay reasonable compensation towards our expenses. I have claimed for my freezer food from my home insurance but had a £100 excess deducted and we had to pay additional costs for petrol and eating out.

I received a letter from EDF this morning stating that "this incident was not covered by the Electricity Guaranteed Standards regime. However, EDF would like to offer a goodwill gesture of £50" If EDF have to pay a £2m fine then I would have thought this money should be given to the people who were affected by the power cuts not some government body.
